法王とタイガ−・ウッズ ―― The Pope and Tiger Woods ―― ローマ法王とタイガー・ウッズは同じ日に亡くなった。ところが管理責任者の手違いで法王を地獄に、タイガー・ウッズを天国へ送ってしまった。
法王は地獄に着くと管理事務所に事情を説明した。係員はあわてて書類を点検したのち誤りを認めた。
「申しわけありませんが、訂正が出来るのは24時間後になります」
翌日、法王は呼び出されて、地獄の係員からお別れの挨拶を受けた。そして天国へ上る途中、天上から下ってくるタイガー・ウッズとすれ違い、ちょっとした話を交わそうとして立ち止まった。
「混乱に巻きこんで、すまなかった」と法王が謝ると、ウッズは「構いませんですよ」と応じた。
「私は天国へ行くのをずっと待ち焦がれていたのでね」
「それはまたどういうことでございましょう」
「私は終生、聖処女マリア様にお会いしたいと願っていたのだ」
「ご免なさい、法王さま、一日遅かったです」The Pope and Tiger Woods died on the same day and because of an administrative mix up the Pope went to hell and Tiger Woods went to heaven.
The Pope explains the situation to the administrative clerk in hell, and after checking the paperwork admits that there is an error. "However",the clerk explains, "it would be 24 hours before it can be rectified".
Next day the Pope is called and Hell's staff bids him farewell.
On the way up, the Pope meets Tiger Woods coming down from heaven and they stop to have a chat.
"Sorry about the mix up", apologies the Pope.
"No problem" replied Tiger Woods.
Pope: "I am really anxious to get to heaven"
Tiger: "Why is that?"
Pope: "All my life I have wanted to meet the Virgin Mary"
Tiger: "You're a day late"
