麻 酔 ―― Anesthesia ―― 手術が終わり、夫が麻酔から目をさますと、妻が傍らに坐っていた。夫はまばたきをしながら妻に「君は美しい」とつぶやくと直ぐにまた眠ってしまった。夫にそんな風に言われるのは初めてだったが、妻はそのまま付き添っていた。
しばらくすると夫は再び目を覚まし、まばたたきをしながら「おう、そこにいたか」といった。先ほどは「美しい」と言ったのに、今度は「そこにいたか」だけで、妻はがっかりした。
「あら、さっきは美しいと言ってたのに、どうしたのかしら」
「どうやら麻酔が覚めてきたようだ」と医師が答えた。
A man was just waking up from anesthesia after surgery, and his wife was sitting by his side. His eyes fluttered open and he said, "You"re beautiful." Then he fell asleep again.
His wife had never heard him say that before, so she stayed by his side. A few minutes later his eyes fluttered open and he said, "You"re cute.." The wife was disappointed because instead of "beautiful," it was now "cute."
She asked, "What happened to beautiful?"
The doctor replied, "The drugs are wearing off."
