Welcome letter
Welcome message from:
Cardiovascular Genetics Satellite
Dear Colleagues and Friends
Cardiovascular Genetics has seen remarkable advances in the last decade and especially in the last 2 years. The technology is staggering, the magnitude of human studies is extraordinary, the sophistication of animal models is outstanding, and the revelations regarding the workings of the genome are absolutely fascinating. Yet the future prospects are even more exciting.
These themes will be core elements of the Cardiovascular Genetics, with the subtitle “Association & Beyond” to envision the future, building on today’s achievements.
Cardiovascular Genetics – Association & Beyond is an official investigator-led satellite to the International Society of Hypertension Meeting in September 2012 and we are delighted that it will also incorporate the 15th International SHR Symposium and the 48th Japanese SHR Meeting.
We should like to welcome you most warmly to join us in Melbourne and be part of this stimulating meeting.
The quality of our Committees and International Advisory Board will ensure that the research presented is at the forefront of the field. This will include the latest in genomic and exomic discovery, control and integration of gene expression, biomarkers, systems biology, pharmacogenomics, epigenetics and functional validation.
The Satellite will span 2 days and will be held at the University of Melbourne on Thursday 27 and Friday 28 September 2012. You can fly into Melbourne and connect easily to Sydney for the ISH Meeting that begins on Sunday 30th September.
For overseas visitors, this is an opportunity to visit Melbourne, which is renowned for its beautiful gardens, its cosmopolitan culture, its world-class restaurants, and some of the best shopping in Australia (www.visitmelbourne.com). The University is very close to the city centre and well served by public transport.
As an Investigator-Led Satellite, we are keeping costs to minimum and you will find details regarding Abstract Submission, Registration and related matters on this website.
Presenters will be delighted to know that their work will be eligible for publication in Physiological Genomics.
We hope that you will join us in Melbourne for a memorable meeting and be part of future of
Cardiovascular Genetics.

15th International SHR Symposium
Invitation to Cardiovascular Genetics Satellite of the 24th ISH incorporating the 15th International SHR Symposium
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
We are very pleased to welcome you to the 15th International SHR Symposium, which will be organized as a joint meeting with the ISH Cardiovascular Genetics Satellite, “Association and Beyond”, in Melbourne on Sept. 27-28, 2012.
The International SHR meeting was started in 1971 with the great initiative of Dr. Okamoto, who established SHR, and the following meetings have been organized, at different continents in the world, for researchers interested in SHR and other models for hypertension and cardiovascular diseases. As SHR had become popular and one of the most ‘common’ genetic models of hypertension, the International SHR Symposium was supported by the International Committee to be jointly organized as the Genetics Satellite of ISH Fukuoka 2006 (in Kyoto) and ISH Berlin 2008 (in Prague).
We are very pleased that Dr. Harrap, an international leader of hypertension genetics and SHR studies, organizes this Satellite of Hypertension Sydney 2012, focusing on genetic studies both on humans and animal models, as well as other topics in recent fascinating progress. The satellite, as such, will promote discussions among the people working on the different targets. Since whole genome sequencing studies on the major strains of SHR and related inbred rats are currently ongoing in cooperation among International scientists, we are expecting the most fruitful outcome of the meeting. The traditional Okamoto Award ceremony is to be held at this satellite.
We are looking forward to welcoming you in Melbourne.

48th Japanese SHR Meeting
Welcome to the 48th Japanese Society for Hypertension Related Diseases Model Research (SHR) Meeting.
We are delighted that the 48th Japanese SHR Meeting will be held jointly with the 15th International SHR Symposium, as part of the Cardiovascular Genetics Satellite 2012 in Melbourne.
This time we have set the theme, “New Frontier in Hypertension Research - multiplicity and integrity of blood pressure regulation”, for the 48th Japanese SHR Meeting. This will provide the opportunity for presentation and discussion of the very best contemporary blood pressure research in disease models such as the spontaneously hypertensive rat from around the world. It has become more important to understand the pathophysiology of hypertension and cardiovascular disease in the context of system biology rather than particular cellular mechanism. Along this line, newly-developed experimental techniques, e.g., genetic modification, epigenetics, physiological genomics, as well as molecular biology, pharmacology and physiology, have been applied to animal models of hypertension and related diseases, thereby allowing for the detection of valuable findings complementary to those in humans.
The Japanese SHR Meeting gives priority not only to hypertension and cardiovascular complications but also to other lifestyle-related diseases, dementia, and behavioral science. The quality program of the meeting will be delivered taking advantage of the best technology to make the experience efficient and enjoyable.
We look forward to welcoming you to Melbourne in 2012.
