News Letter from Classroom

It has been 5years since I started this URL.
I wonder how many people have visited this page.

Today I would like to introduce my students' pieces .
(Click picture for bigger size)

p4 Jewel Box

This student stitched  a blue bird and flower scene.
Although she has had many experience using
a geometric stitch,
this is the first time to stitch a nature scene.
I think she did a good job.

sc14 Bell

This picture frame of Bells is the student’s second challenge.
Her first challenge was Chinesebell Flower design.
You can see that if you change the color of the background,
the design has a different look.
(Please see below the blue background of the Bells)

sc16 Pine Tree and Plum Blossom

This piece was stitched by the same student above.
She loves classic traditional design very much.

Suzu  (Bell)

This design is very traditional .
Originaly she made this piece for a picture frame,
but after completion, she start ed to say  that
she did not  want a picture frame after all,
I don't know what she has decided.
She had a defficult time stitching with Gold
Metallic thread as it is not as easy as stitching
with ordinary thread.
This is her first selected traditional design.
Her taste is very soft  and  well done.

Formal Bag

The formal bag is a design which involves irregular type of stitching.
The stitcher selected her own special color combination.
In this case, Gold and other unique metallic kinds thread.
The stitcher of this bag had also stitched two Obis.
“Touyama” is the name of the Obi design.
The stitches used in this Obi were “1dan stitch” and “2 dan step stitch”,a very intricate type of stitching..

Mt.Fuji at Sunset

The stitcher of this piece is an experienced stitcher.
She has made many traditional and some modern designs.
She was attracted with this scene and wanted to make up
it her own
rozashi project. It is really a beautiful scene but at the same time
it is necessary to have skill with shading .
 After she started to stitch
because of this, she developed distress for a long time.
Then she grasped the technique and could complete
it beautifully.
She also submitted this piece to the Metropolitan Art Exhibition,
Her piece generated many compliments for attendees.
The "light at the end of the tunnel" experience was actuary
a step -up of the skill  level.Congratulation!!

p3 Nagoya Obi

The stitcher of this obi is also an experienced stitcher.
She converted her favorite design from Katsura Obi
of  Noh stage into an arrangement that can be appliqued
onto Obi worn with Kimono.
It took 14 months to complete.
Her choice reflects her classic and noble taste and of course
her technique is impeccable.

When she first started Rozashi, the stitcher of these pieces was
more than 80 years old.
She has completed many small items. Some are her
daughter's design and others, like the lavender pill box
shown, are a design from a picture which attracted her.
Many ladies complain that their vision gets poorer as they age
and therefore can not do Rozashi, but this student does
beautiful work.

sc08 This stitcher is an advanced student. I particulaly wanted
to introduce this piece as this student, after completing the
basic course of Rozashi, proceeded to stitch the appliques of
this OBI.
Her choice of flower design represent each season except
summer.
She must be proud of herself upon completion of her first project.
